The analysis of last ranks, after the second allotment of engineering courses by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) during 2018, has indicated interesting trends in the prioritization of courses and colleges by the meritorious aspirants of the state. If the thirty one courses in the engineering stream are considered , fourteen courses had a closing last rank below ten thousand. These courses are running by ten engineering colleges out of which majority are government engineering colleges (TVE,TCR,TRV,CDT,KCT,CFT,TKM) and three government controlled self-financing engineering colleges ( MDL,LBT, SCT).
The choices of engineering aspirants have favoured College of Engineering, Trivandum (TVE) in all the eight among the ten most preferred engineering courses including Architecture, during 2018.The top meritorious candidates have chosen Computer Science Engineering as their first choice to join the College of Engineering, Trivandum for their higher studies. The last rank of allotment in Computer Science Engineering (CS) was 365 under state merit (SM) category and it was followed by Electronics & Communications Engineering (Last Rank of EC-626), Electrical & Electronics Engineering (Last Rank of EE-1042),Mechanical Engineering (Last Rank of ME-1745 ), ,Civil Engineering (Last Rank of CE-1798) and Applied Electronics (Last Rank of AE-2149) in the most preferred engineering college of the state. In addition, the Last rank of allotted candidates in Industrial Engineering (IE) course in the College of Engineering was 6077.The Architecture aspirants also preferred TVE as their destination of higher learning in professional courses. The other most preferred courses were Chemical Engineering (CH) in Thrissur Government Engineering college with 3512 as the last rank of allotment followed by Diary Technology (DS) in College of Diary Science & Technology (Last Rank-5957) and Agricultural Engineering Course (AG) in Kelappaji College of Engineering & Technology, Tavanur with last rank of 6487 and Food Technology (FT) in College of Food Technology, Chalakudy , Thrissur with las rank of 7810.The Government Engineering College,Bartonhill , Trivandrum (TRV) and TKM Engineering College ,Kollam (TKM) were also attracted by the aspirants as the destination of technical education in addition to TVE and TCR.
In the case of government controlled self-financing engineering colleges, the candidates have opted Computer Science Engineering with last rank of allotment of 1666, Electronics & Communications Engineering (Last rank -3802) and Electrical & Electronics Engineering (Last rank -5843) courses in the most preferred college Model Engineering College, Trikkakara. The Mechanical Engineering course ( Last rank -6408) of Sri Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering and Civil Engineering(Last rank -9160) course of LBS Institute of Technology for women were also attracted by the top rankers in the prioritization of their options.
Among the private self-financing engineering colleges , Rajagiri Engineeering college (RET), Muthoot Institute of technology and Science (MUT) and Federal Institute of Technology ( FIT) colleges were favoured by the aspirants compared to other colleges.
The allotments after first allotment in medical stream have indicated that the Medical College, Kozhikkode was the most preferred college for MBBS course with last rank of allotment of 219 followed by Trivandrum Medical College ( Last rank-311) and Kottayam Medical College(Last rank- 420).The top priorities were assigned by the BDS aspirants to Kozhikkode Dental College with last rank of allotment of 1654 while Trivandrum Dental college had allotment up to 1801 medical rank. In other medical allied courses, the preferred courses were B.V.Sc, B.Sc (Agriculture) and B.A.M.S courses with 2936, 3451 and 3550 as their respective medical allied last ranks of allotments. The last rank of allotments to B.Sc (Forestry) and B.FSc (Fisheries) are respectively 3614 and 3885.
The Students up to a rank of 2784 and 9399 were obtained allotment to MBBS and BDS courses in private self-financing colleges.
